A pounce wheel is a handy tool for quickly creating rows of rivets on model aircraft. Ideally, the rivets should be applied before starting priming or painting, but I thought that the large surface areas of the wings looked a bit bare. I therefore added a few rows of rivets and polished the slightly raised surrounds of the rivet holes with 3,600-grit Micro-Mesh cloth.

This is the point where I usually say, ‘Oh no’. The basecoat of olive drab is very dark and hides much of the surface detail painstakingly applied in the previous weeks. The basecoat of neutral grey on the lower surfaces was applied immediately after this dark olive drab.
